Notice from the AZ Department of Agriculture: The State of Arizona requires the following statement on all livestock certificates of veterinary inspection on animals entering from Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. "The animals represented on this health certificate have not originated from a premises or area under quarantine for vesicular stomatitis. I have examined the animals and have found no signs of vesicular stomatitis." Equine certificates must be issued within 5 days of entry. This website http://www.aphis.usda.gov/lpa/issues/vs/vs.html gives a weekly update of the current outbreak. We expect being able to lift VS all restrictions sometime this winter if new cases cease as has been the case in prior years outbreaks.

Adding: Subject: Hauling card requirements Requirements for a Equine Hauling card. The hauling card is voluntary as of August 2002. In the past it was required to have with you when you were trailering your horse to proove ownership. With all the budget cuts made within our department, it was also one of them. It is now voluntary, so we will issue them to those that still wish to have them. Several people say it makes it much easier when they travel from state to state to show ownership because some states still require hauling cards. Also, if the horse is grade and has no horse registry papers with the breed association it is a proof of ownership. We still require the Equine Application to be completed, a copy of the old hauling card, and a fee of $10.00 per horse. If the horse is from out of state or has no hauling card, the Equine application completed, a copy of the Bill of Sale, the original or a copy of a health certificate (not older than 30 days), a copy or original of the negitive "coggins test (stands for Equine Infectious Anemia), not older than 1 year, three photos of the horse, (left side, right side and front) along with the $10.00 fee. The Equine application can be mailed to you by our office or obtained online at www.agriculture.state.az. If you do not want a hauling card, all you need to show ownership now is a handwritten "Bill of Sale". If you have any further questions please feel free to give me a call @602-542-0949 or e-mail me at suzette.taylor @agric.state.az.us Hope I have been of some help.
